DIY Driftwood Necklace Holder

I don’t have a lot of jewelry (I actually had to steal some from other people for this photo)… but I for sure have a lot of driftwood from my walks on the beach in Montauk. In fact, I have so much driftwood, that I have a basket full of it in the closet, and no use for any of the branches. That being said, I decided to take it back to my crafting roots and create some fun jewelry displays for myself and my friend Sara at Love of Pretty (she makes insanely cute jewelry you guys, so make so to check her out). This project was mega easy, and to boot, I picked up the cup hooks for $2 and the rope for $1 at my local dollar store, which means that this project literally cost me under $5. Forreal.

Huge thanks to Sara from Love of Pretty for inspiring this idea. The two of us are sharing a booth at this year Lion’s Club Fair in Montauk, and she had asked me to make her a fun display for her necklaces. Being that we’ll be steps away from the beach while we sell our artwork, driftwood displays just felt so right. Hey, not a jewelry person? The display can double as a key holder as well!

Here are the very few steps it took to make these adorable displays come to life.

What You’ll Need:

Tools
Drill
Small Drill Bit
(will depend on the width of your cup hooks)
Scissors
Tape Measure
Marker

Materials

Driftwood
Cup Hooks
Rope
Liquid Adhesive

The Steps:

1. Use your measuring tape and marker to create small marks where you would like your hooks to be. I chose to make mine 1.5″ apart on the front face of the driftwood.

2. Pre-drill small holes in the markings with your drill bit. My hooks were 1/2″ thick, so I used a 3/8″ drill bit to help the cup hooks in, but also have a snug fit.

3. Screw in the cup hooks.

4. Wrap rope around the ends of the driftwood and glue them down as you go. Make sure to keep some slack in the middle for hanging.

That’s it! Just hang ’em up!

I love the way these displays look when stacked. I made a bunch of them so Sara can hang and layer them from our tent at the big fair. These are so versatile as well! The hooks can be changed, added, or removed extremely easily!

Moral of this project, if you have tons of driftwood laying around like I did, use them for a useful project like this! Way easy and super affordable.

Until next time…
