DIY Wooden Chevron Bench

Now that it’s nice out and I have some extra time on my hands, I’ve been itching to build and design some more furniture pieces. Good thing my parents needed a new bench for their entryway, right? I designed this fun, chevron-topped wooden bench for their entryway and partnered with my friends at Plutonium Paint to give you the plans for free! To be honest, I’ve been using Plutonium Paint for my heavy duty projects for a while now. Their cans make life really easy. You can use them upside down, their colors are great for outdoor use, and there’s an awesomely fast dry time, which makes completing a project so much quicker. They also come with different size spray heads, which makes it possible to paint any project! In conclusion, this is why partnering with them on this project just felt so right.

In total, this build took a weekend for me to finalize (which, really isn’t so bad)! If you’re ambitious enough, it can even be completed in one day.

Before you start, here are some tips to make this build feel like a cakewalk.

1. Pre-cut all pieces except for your top chevron panels and your angled middle pieces. Because these are cut on angles, it will be easiest for you to measure as you go!

2. Fill holes, stain, and paint your base before attaching the top! That way you don’t have to worry about getting spray paint on your top panels.

3. Make sure to use the appropriate finish for each part of your bench. While the base will work with paint and a clear coat, you may need to use a heavier sealer on the top if the bench is going to be used outdoors.

For the base I used Plutonium Paint Cleveland Gray Spray Paint

Plutonium Paint Clear Gloss Spray Paint (for the base and indoor use only)
Paintable/Stainable Wood Filler
Outdoor Sealer (if keeping the bench outdoors)
American Walnut Stain (color I used for the top)
KREG Pocket Hole Screws (2 ½”)
KREG Foreman (this thing is life changing)
