Create Your Own Reusable Stencils

 how to make custom stencils
Stencils are so great. They make big projects so much easier to do. But sometimes you can’t find the exact stencil you need. So, I’ll show you how easy it is to make a DIY custom stencil!

DIY Custom Stencil

I recently stumbled upon this awesome product called “Dura-lar Clear Overlay Film”, which is usually used for overheads and transparencies. The pad I got comes with 25 pieces (for more stencils to play with)! They do have paper that is specifically meant for stenciling, but the overlay film paper is more durable and will be better for long time use.

What You’ll Need:

Dura-lar Clear Overlay Film
(this item can be purchased at your local Michael’s Crafts store)
X-Acto Knife
Printed Image

The Steps:

1. Print an image you want to stencil.

2. Line up a page of film paper on top of your image. You may want to tape both pieces to the front cover of the Overlay Film pad.

3. Trace the image with your X-Acto Knife and then pop out the cut piece.

4. Use your stencil!

Fun Tips:

Because you are making your own stencils you can get really creative. Just be patient though, cutting out your images might take a while if they are filled with curved lines and elaborate decorations!

Now go stencil your heart out…
