Just because summer’s almost over doesn’t mean you can hang up your outdoor chores until spring. In fact, early fall is one of the best times to give your home and yard some extra love.
The cooler weather makes outdoor work far more enjoyable, and a little maintenance now can save you a lot of headaches later.
Here are a few easy, but high-impact ways to keep your home’s exterior looking great and prepped for winter.

1. Keep Cutting the Grass

One of the biggest fall myths? That cooler temps mean you can put the mower away for the year. Not true! Keeping your lawn healthy year-round means continuing to mow in the fall, just adjust your approach.
You’ll want to aim to keep your grass around 2 ½ to 3 inches tall. This height protects your lawn from disease, encourages strong root growth, and keeps it looking lush well into the season.
A mower with adjustable height settings makes this a breeze, and your future self will thank you when spring rolls around.
2. Tackle Those Weeds

If your string trimmer (a.k.a. weed eater) has been collecting dust all summer, now’s the time to pull it out.
Early fall is perfect for cutting back invasive vines, trimming grass along edges, and dealing with those stubborn weeds that only need a trim once or twice a year.
Trust me, this quick cleanup goes a long way toward making your yard look cared for, even if you do nothing else.
3. Clean Out Your Gutters

Leaves are falling… and that increases the chances of having gutter clogs. I always recommend clearing gutters at least twice in the fall, once when the leaves really start coming down, and then again before the holidays.
This simple step helps prevent water damage, ice dams, and other costly headaches once the weather turns.
4. Give Your Home a Good Rinse

Here’s a commonly skipped fall chore, pressure washing. Not only on your home’s siding, but also your walkways, and patios. It’s the perfect time to remove summer’s accumulated dirt and prep surfaces for winter.
Using a pressure washer with interchangeable nozzles makes it easy to switch between tasks. You’ll be able to go from blasting grime off concrete to gently rinsing siding.
Bonus: cooler weather means you’re more likely to wear proper, protective clothing instead of the flip-flops-and-tank-top combo that tends to appear during the summer.

And that’s it! Four easy ways to make a big difference in your curb appeal and home health this Fall.
