DIY Tombstone Candy Holder

Halloween DIY Tombstone

October is my favorite month… mostly because I’m obsessed with Halloween! So, you can imagine my excitement when my friends at The Home Depot asked me to help out with their Do-It-Herself Workshops for Halloween this year! Today I’m sharing my spook-tacular version of Home Depot’s Tombstone Candy Holder! Best part? You can make your own version at your local Home Depot’s FREE Workshop! Want to secure your spot? Make sure to click on this link!: https://thd.co/2h1DkS5

How To Make A DIY Tombstone Candy Holder for Halloween

For this round of workshop fun, I decided to stay close to the original project, so that you can make your own in store! P.S. In case you forgot what it looks like… here it is!

…and here’s mine!

This project was so easy to do and only took a couple of hours to complete!

What You’ll Need:

Fun Halloween Project

Tools
Jig Saw
Nail Gun
Sander
Hot Glue Gun
Tape Measure
Pencil
Marker
Paint Brush
Compass
(or Pencil, Nail, & Twine)

Materials
2 x 2 x ½” Plywood Board
Bag Of Bones
Black Plastic Cauldron
Rust-Oleum Stone Spray Paint
Black Acrylic Paint
¾” Brad Nails
Hot Glue Gun Sticks
Bales of Hay (Optional)
Synthetic Spider Webs (Optional)

The Steps:

1. Use your jig saw and a straight edge to cut a 6″ wide strip of wood from your 2 x 2′ plywood board. This strip will be used to make a stake for the back of the tombstone in a later step.

How To Use A Jig Saw

2. Use the remaining 18 x 24″ wide plywood board to create your tombstone. Start by using a compass (I used a pencil, piece of twine, and nail) to create a rounded edge for the top of the tombstone.

3. Use your jig saw to cut along the line you made.

4. Next, use your jig saw to cut random cracks into the tombstone. These don’t have to be perfect!

5. Smooth down all of your edges with a sander.

6. Next, use your spray paint to paint the front of the board.

Fake Stone

7. While the paint dries, use your jig saw to cut your 6″ wood strip from the first step into a stake for the back of the board.

8. Paint takes a bit to dry, so while it continues to cure, use a hot glue gun to attach your hands from the Bag of Bones to your black plastic cauldron.

9. Once your tombstone is dry, use a marker to trace an outline of whatever it is you would like it to say. If you can’t free hand, that’s okay! You can check out my DIY Reusable Stencil Tutorial to make a stencil for this project!

9. Fill in your design with paint or stain.
