Easy DIY Woven Headboard

Easy DIY Woven Headboard

This is the simplest headboard to DIY and it really makes an impact. If you’re looking for an affordable way to freshen up or bring more style to a bedroom I highly recommend giving this a try. You’ll need minimal tools and materials and it really doesn’t take long either. Let’s get started!

Tools + Materials

Tools

  • Miter Saw
  • Drill + Driver Set
  • Sander
  • Staple Gun
  • Long Ruler
  • Fabric Cutter/Scissors

Materials

  • Wood Glue
  • Wood Stain
  • Fabric
  • Hooks

1. Build the frame

First I used my miter saw to cut out the pieces for my frame.

Then I used pocket hole screws and wood glue to assemble my frame.

The final step for the frame was to sand it and then apply stain. Having the frame a deeper tone than the natural wood was a much better match for this bedroom.

2. Cut your fabric

I was actually able to save a lot by buying a tablecloth that looked like leather to use as my fabric. I used a long straight edge and fabric cutter to get precise and symmetrical pieces.

3. Attach the fabric to your frame

I used a staple gun to attach my fabric strips to the back of my frame. Make sure to use a spacer to space them out evenly.

Then I wrapped the fabric around to the front side of the frame and attached it to the other side before attaching the vertical strips. You’ll only attach the vertical strips to the top at this point.

4. Get weaving

This is where the fun starts, make sure to weave each piece under and over, alternating between each strip so you get this basketweave pattern. Leave each piece loose at the bottom until you complete all of the pieces, then you can turn your headboard over and staple all of the loose ends to the back of the frame.

5. Attach hooks

I chose to attach my headboard to the wall behind the bed, so I attached hooks to the top corners of the back of my frame.

6. Hang your headboard

Simple as that, hang your headboard and you’re done! Don’t forget to style with bedding and accent pillows!

I really love the way this project turned out. It was exactly the upgrade this bedroom needed. I hope this project inspires you to take on something in your home. Happy DIYing friends!
